HOW DO I GET STARTED IN BMX RACING?
First things first - Find a local BMX track near you! Once you arrive to the track, go up to the registration window. This is where you will get the info you need about the cost of races and practices. Races and practices range in cost starting between $5 and $12 depending on the local track.
HOW DO I GET A USABMX MEMBERSHIP?
The process to BECOME A MEMBER. USA BMX Memberships are required annually at a cost of $60 for the year. (You can sign up at your local BMX Track.)
This gives you access to ride at all 300+ BMX tracks across the USA. This also provides you with supplemental insurance may you ever need it.
Along with your USA BMX Membership card, you will receive:
Your first racing number that you will put on the front of your bike.
A profile you can create at . This will: - Track all of the points you earn throughout the year. Your points will determine the number you will ride the following year. -Online Trophy room - Follow Other Members - Share photos in the online BMX Community
A monthly Subscription to PULL MAGAZINE. This will come in the mail. It showcases all the events, nationals and BMX News from the previous month.
If want to give BMX a try, USA BMX offers a free ONE-DAY TRIAL MEMBERSHIP so all you’ll need your first day out is the track’s daily practice and/or race fee and a parent’s signature if you are a minor.
WHAT BIKE DO I NEED?
Lets Cover THE BIKE: You can use any bike to get started. The bike must not have pegs or a kickstand. Your local track may have race bikes available as loaners.
Once you decide you want to get a race bike, you will want to measure your height to determine what size bike will be best for you. Here is a basic chart to get you started.

First you will want to check with your local BMX Shop, If you have one. If not try one of these online shops. They have large selections that you can purchase and have your BMX Bike sent to your door.
WHAT PROTECTION DO I NEED?
Pants, Long Sleeve Shirt & Helmet are required! LearnBMX Recommends wearing Elbow Pads, Knee pads and Gloves. A crash will happen and when it does, it feels alot better when you have pads and gloves on. You will want to get up and do it again if you are not scraped up and in pain. WHO DO I RACE? HOW DO THE AGE GROUPS & SKILL LEVELS WORK?
Once all riders are signed up. Your Track will say "MOTOS ARE POSTED" you will look at the moto sheet. This will tell you what moto and gate assignments you have. The moto sheets will be broken up into ages and proficiency.
Riders will start off in the NOVICE class. Once a rider has 10 first place finishes in the novice class they will become an INTERMEDIATE. Once a rider has 20 intermediate 1st place finishes they will become an EXPERT/GIRL EXPERT.
